Daring & Demure: A Tale of Two Red Carpets (Grammys & BAFTAs)

Hello Readers,

This past weekend, two interesting fashion events occurred (ok, way more if you count the start of the Fall/Winter 2011 Ready-To-Wear season with the Montreal and New York Fashion Weeks kicking off.  But never fear, I will, of course, cover that in detail in a future post...):  the Grammys and the BAFTAs.

To me, the Grammys are always an excuse to go absolutely crazy (sometimes to the extreme and ridiculous) with fashion, and the celebs seem to try to get away with as much (or as little ;) as possible.  This year, some fashion choices even left me asking, "who hatched this idea?"  As I have no (kind) words for certain wardrobe choices, I will just post some looks I liked...

My favs:

Rihanna in Christian Dior Haute Couture
I love couture & I love pansies, nuff said.
Plus, I think this dress shows off this gorgeous girl's *ahem* assets better than other outfits...

& still screams for attention, just in a different way.

Nicole Kidman looking lovely in Jean Paul Gaultier.
Where was she hiding this dress at the other red carpet events?!?

Julianne Hough in Malandrino.
So different!  I think this is absolutely gorgeous
& I would wear it any old day ;)

Selena Gomez in J. Mendel
She looks sweet & sophisticated, & totally un-slutty :)
And now for the runners-up:

Heidi Klum in Julien Macdonald
I especially like the back.

J Lo in Emilio Pucci
Killer shoes.

Florence Welch in Givenchy Haute Couture
At least it's different.  And definitely not trashy.

Lea Michele in Pucci
Like her SAG dress, this one is so much better than those pouffy, girly gowns.

On the other hand, the BAFTAs (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) were all reserved elegance...which could get boring.  But not with these lovely ladies:

Thandie Newton in Monique Lhullier
Again a gigantic floral - love it!  & the colour is to die for!!

Noomi Rapace in Givenchy
Glitter done right.

Emma Watson in Valentino
I always love her choices.

Julianne Moore in & with Tom Ford
ok, so Tom Ford could be greatly influencing my opinion of this dress...

Gemma Arterton in YSL
Simple but gorgeous!

And two sweet LBDs:
Edith Bowman in Amelia Wickstead
Felicity Jones in Chanel

So, those are my thoughts.  What did you think?

  2. Julianne Hough's choice was probably my favorite, but Noomi Rapace's dress was absolutely stunning as well! The other Givenchy dress (with the orange detail) did not fit well, I thought. Looked better on a mannequin, unfortunately.

Congrats on being picked for I ♥ Links! Thanks for the comment, I'm following you now :)

  3. I think Selena Gomez was the best dressed at the Grammys. It was funny, in an interview on the red carpet, she said she wanted to be simple and not standout because she wasn't nominated. and i think she ended up having the best dress. I love all your other choices as well.
Nicole Kidman and Heidi Klum were other faves of mine!

  7. J Lo, Looked amazing. I feel like she finally did it right. Lately she has been a disaster. Deviating from her roots,a diva, but at the Grammys she was a full rocker diva!
I also think Selena Gomez was stunning. She looked grown up but still age appropriate. Very beautiful.
